“The life woven inside the mangrove forest revolves around these long, splendid, living roots. When my exhalations dissolving in the dark realities of the forest, I can see the stilt roots tightly holding the earth. The deep, untold natural history buried under the marshy earth slowly germinates to touch my feet. Seedlings of dreams detaching from their mother’s womb and embracing the tides, and the entire underwater world peeping into my camera. This breeze, sounds of Storks, and soothing tides reminds me of the dispatches from the vanishing world around me. Let me walk forward, little fiddlers and mud skippers..!”

“When the canoe moves forward, I can feel the forest in waters. Hiding a world full of
magnificent life forms, this green cover fascinates our mind. This breeze, sounds of storks,
and soothing tides reminds me of the dispatches from the vanishing world around me!”
The world is also waiting for the humming wings, but who knows for what!”
Tent-web Spider (Cyrtophora sp.)
“Spending time with this spider, away from the (WW)web reminds the whole network of organisms that keep nature’s pulse. Definitely, it is looking for the next victim, waiting in its
magnificent web. The world is also waiting for the humming wings, but who knows for what!”
Story Behind These photos were taken during a canoe journey in Perumba river flowing through Kunjimangalam of Kannur district of Kerala. It was an unplanned journey (thanks to Ramith Payyanur, Vimal Vilasini, Sajan John, Mohammed Jasil, Syamjith Krishnan and Clince P Jose!) took place after a workshop on ‘Scientific Methods of Mangrove Restoration’ conducted by Kannur Kandal Project, a joint venture by Wildlife Trust of India (WTI) and Apollo Tyres at Mangrove Interpretation Centre, Edat, Kannur on 2018 December 22.
Happy Moment
I won a Special Mention Award for the first image in the “Life in a Mangrove Forest" national level photography competition organized by Mangrove and Marine Biodiversity Conservation Foundation of Maharashtra (Mangrove Foundation), under Govt. of Maharashtra as part of International Mangrove Day 2019; along Shrikanth Mannepuri, Sudarshan S., Niketan Thakur and Shaunak Modi.
